Anganwadi Sevika (Health Workers) : Health Check-up

• Anganwadi sevikas are the main pillars of ICDS programme dealing with U6 children and ANC mothers

• While many studies are conducted in beneficiaries group of U6 children and ANC mothers, the health and morbidity profile of these health workers remains neglected and unknown .This would be the first study of it's kind in Anganwadi Sevikas.

• Keeping this in mind the above study was conducted by CHD to know the detailed Morbidity profile of AS and plan Specific targeted Interventions for them.

• The vision was to improve the overall quality of life of these health functionaries which would increase their work productivity and indirectly benefit the U6 children and ANC mothers to whom they cater.

• The above study would also help to suggest policy level changes for Unorganized sector of these health workers. This would include measures like Health Insurance, Periodic medical examination, Awareness Workshops to name a few.

• Women in India face constraints not only in obtaining health services, but also in expressing reproductive health needs.

• Many programs in India are focused on reproductive and child health, which deals with women in 15-45 years of age group. Programs that focus on general health needs and reproductive health needs of women above 35 years of age are inadequate.

• Lack of awareness, cultural barriers and economic factors prevent them from seeking timely care.

• Finally, given most women's limited mobility and their lack of autonomy in decision-making it is unlikely that they will take the initiative in obtaining care for themselves.

• Women from lower socio economic strata of the society generally neglect their health needs, therefore to gain insight into women's health problems a screening program was organized for women of rural area of Konkan region.
