  • Where is Dervan? How can I get there? How long does it take?
    • Dervan is halfway between Mumbai and Goa on the Mumbai-Goa highway. It is 19 KM towards Goa from Chiplun, Chiplun being the nearest major town to the Hospital.
    • Travel time is about five hours by car from Mumbai and four hours from Pune.
    • There is also Konkan railway in case one prefers train from Mumbai.

  • Can you briefly describe the hospital?
    • The hospital has 250 beds and its supporting departments include:
      • ICU - Diagnostic Centre with:
      • Surgical ICU - CT Scanner
      • Neonatal ICU - 2D Echo
      • Telemedicine - Blood Bank
      • Operation Theatres - Color Doppler
      • Haemodialysis Unit - Cancer unit radiation therapy
    • The ICU department is well equipped with ventilators, defibrillators, and pacemakers etc. to take care of the critically ill patients. Similarly, the Neonatal ICU, established in 1997 with ten incubators and a ventilator, is the only NICU available in the entire Konkan region to take care of neonates. More than 3000 neonates have been nursed in the NICU so far. Haemodialysis unit takes care of acute and chronic renal failure. The operation theatre is equipped with scopes like Laparoscope, Cystoscope, Nephro - Ureteroscope, Arthroscope and Image Intensifier.

  • Do I need to take immunizations?
    • If you are planning to stay over a week, Malaria and Typhoid immunizations are highly recommended.
  • What is the climate of this region?
    • Climate is tropical. Monsoon lasts from June- September. Summer months of April and May can get very hot and humid. Temperature is typically 70-80F rest of the year. Breathable cotton clothes highly suggested.
  • Is accommodation available on hospital premises?
    • Decent accommodation is available for visiting doctors and volunteers.
  • What kind of food can I expect?
    • Simple Indian food would be available in canteen. In case you have special diet requirements, arrangements can be made for your own cooking facility if you so desire.
  • What languages are spoken locally?
    • English, Marathi and Hindi
  • What is the voltage to run appliances?
    • The voltage is 220V. You will need an adapter to plug in appliances.
