The Centre for Adolescent Health was inaugurated on 20th March 2018 by the auspicious hands of trustee, Shri Ashok R. Joshi alias Kaka Maharaj at BKL Walwalkar Hospital, Dervan.
The Centre for Adolescent Health aims to improve overall health of adolescent population in rural areas. We are unique in focusing on adolescence as it’s a critical stage of life. This includes the transition from childhood into adolescence and the transition beyond adolescence into adult life. The Centre for Adolescent Health works closely with the rural youth in villages.
Baby Shower Ceremony –
Birth of a child is an event which fills his mother with unlimited joy. Young age, lack of knowledge & awareness about pregnancy, fear of delivery & even fear/stress of the possibility of delivering a girl child causes the pregnant woman to be under stress all the time. To release this stress & pressure, the hospital arranges Baby Shower ceremony for the pregnant women. This is expected to make the pregnant woman achieve pleasant state of mind, would make her more confident and lead to a stress-free delivery. It is one more way of the hospital to build life-long bonds with women.

Mother in law workshops –
Every daughter-in-law faces a mountain of expectations from her mother-in-law. Most important among those is the expectation about the birth of a grand-son. Hospital arranges get-togethers of “daughter-in-law & mother-in-law” to keep this bond pleasant one.
Naming ceremony –
The formal naming ceremony (Barse) performed especially for a girl child. In this programme a newborn’s name is selected using traditional methods. The aim of this activity is to educate mother & her family to grow safe & healthier child & to support girl child birth.

Health of an adolescent girl is important for health of her future baby. In rural India adolescent girls face serious health problems due to poor socioeconomics, poor environmental conditions, inadequate nutrition, gender discrimination and anemia.
